oh what a dream

I stopped by Laurie Stolarz’s blog this week to talk about a recurring dream, which involves Tony Blair (a.k.a. prime minister cutiepie), Red Lobster, Sunday school, and a little green Trabant. I also took a whirl on Karin Gillespie’s blog, where I talked about the Southern writer thing (I’m from Alabama), the MFA thing (getting it for free, using it to write a book & get a job), and the theme thing (I’m a Scorpio–can I be blamed for gravitating toward water?).

Laura Albert keeps on tickin’

I was pleased to read in PW this morning that Laura Albert, writing as JT LeRoy, will publish her new novella, Labour, with Last Gasp. The San Francisco publisher should be credited for going ahead with the book despite the revelation (duh, okay, was it really a revelation?) that JT LeRoy, as such, does not exist. James Frey, meanwhile, has been dumped by Riverhead. These are two very different situations. In one, an author wrote works of fiction under an assumed name.
