Ingmar Bergman died today…

at his home in Sweden, at the age of 89. Here’s his Wiki page. Or check out his amazingly lengthy and varied ouvre at IMDB. According to IMDB, the iconoclastic director’s favorite movies were Utvandrarna (1971), La Dolce vita, La (1960), and Les Vacances de M. Hulot (1953). He had at least nine children, among them Liv Ullman. He wasn’t related to actress Ingrid Bergman, although, confusingly, he married a woman named Ingrid who took his last name. Bergman described his less-than-idyllic childhood in his autobiography, The Magic Lantern. His daughter Liv followed in his footsteps when she published her memoir, Changing, in 1978.
