Jeff Garlin is Speechless

November 27th, 2007 by Michelle

Of all the Speechless short videos aired recently on Deadline Hollywood Daily, starring SAG actors in support of the striking Writers Guild of America, this one starring a silent Jeff Garlin is my favorite. The brainchild of director/writer George Hickenlooper and writer Alan Sereboff, Project Speechless portrays A-list actors in Internet-exlusive videos, doing what they’d do if there were no writers to back them up. Ed Asner’s spot is gross in the way that Carl’s Jr. commercials are gross. Much as I love Laura Linney, her spot is very long and kind of pretentious. Sean Penn looks like he’s been drinking a lot. William H. Macy’s spot with Felicity Huffman is short and to the point–who knew he could whistle? The Speechless Anthem, featuring all of the stars from the individual ads and then some, is catchy and pretty cute.
