Indie 50

January 25th, 2008 by Michelle

The Hollywood Reporter recently published an article titled “The Indie Power 50: Execs Shaping the Indie Landscape.” About Newmarket partners Will Tyrer and Chris Ball, HR says:

Since forming in 1994, the duo has been at the forefront of some of the most interesting indies that have crossed over to the mainstream, including 2000’s “Memento,” 2002’s “Whale Rider” and 2003’s “Monster.” And, of course, there’s the biggest indie hit ever: Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ…” This year Newmarket acquired the film rights to Michelle Richmond’s novel The Year of Fog, but Ball and Tyrer spent 2007 refinancing the business and refocusing on production and development. “I can see us producing between four and eight films a year and distributing five or six,” Ball said last summer.
