I’ll be speaking Saturday, March 28, at Lynnewood Methodist Church in Pleasanton. This will be a fundraising event, sponsored by P.E.O. International. Towne Center Books will be on hand to sell copies of The Year of Fog and No One You Know, with part of the proceeds to benefit P.E.O. women’s scholarships. 1:00 – 3:00.

I found this photograph by J. Wilson while doing an internet search for JFG Coffee Company–a major olfactory memory from my days in Knoxville, TN, in the early nineties. The unsigned drawing, which appears on a yet-to-be-renovated building off Market Square in Knoxville’s Old City, takes graffiti art to a new level. . What is interesting to me as an author (i.e. attention whore) is that the artist went to all the trouble to make this beautiful drawing, yet had the grace and zen-of-mind not to claim credit for his or her work.

PW Bestselling Paperbacks

This week, Publishers Weekly rounds up the bestselling paperbacks of 2008. Topping the list at a whopping 5,298,355 copies sold in 2008 is Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth, followed closely by William P. Young’s The Shack at 4,432,439, and Three Cups of Tea at 1,346,204. Barack Obama’s books round off the 1 million plus list. The list is further broken down into trade paperback and mass market paperback, divided into categories of numbers sold: 1million+, 750,000+, 500,000+, 250,000+, and 100,00+. The Year of Fog appears considerably lower on the list than A New Earth, at 217,069 trade paperbacks sold...

How Much Honesty Is Too Much?

Over at right-reading, Tom Christensen shares a letter he received from a writer who says he met Tom years ago, and that Tom’s response to his work was so devastating that he stopped sharing his work for ten years. The letter-writer admits that he may have gotten Tom confused with someone else, and that, even if Tom was the editor he met with, his response might not have been as harsh as the writer remembers.
