More confusion on Nook ereader lending policy. From Publishers Lunch:
At the press conference BN said there is no limit on how many times an ebook can be lent–only that you can lend an ebook to one person at a time, and just for up to 14 days…One publisher told us that BN was initially trying to secure broader lending rights but pulled back based on broad publisher resistance…executives at most of the biggest trade houses indicated to us that they have not agreed to participate in LendMe.
An article today in the New York Times makes it clear that lending is an across-the-board problem, not only an issue with Nook–although Nook makes legal lending easier than Kindle. The article mentions one Kindle reader, Shanya Eglin, who “has actually never paid for an e-book.”
Exploiting a loophole in Amazon’s system, Ms. Englin has linked her Kindle to the Amazon account of some nearby friends, allowing all of them to read books like ‘The Lost Symbol’ at the same time while paying for them only once.
