What’s your price, Congressman?

written by Michelle on December 18, 2012 in Ephemera with no comments
While the NRA spends tens of millions of dollars each year on lobbying and campaign contributions, the price of some Congressional votes is surprisingly low. Here is how much the NRA paid Members of the House and Senate last year.  When so many lives are at stake, it is astonishing how cheaply politicians can be bought. Congress members supported numerous measures promoted by the NRA last year, including one to prevent denying guns to people with a history of mental illness, and another measure to prevent the Department of Justice from keeping a list of individuals who purchased large numbers of firearms.

Is your congress person on this list? If so, I encourage you to write them, call them, and demand to know how they voted on gun control measures.

NRA laid groundwork against new gun laws:

For years, the well-known gun rights advocate and lobbying group has laid the ground work to ward off any move to change national gun policy, spending millions of dollars to kill laws that would make it tougher to buy or wield guns.

So far this year, the NRA and other groups that lobby Congress and the White House on gun rights have spent close to $4 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

And while President Obama has renewed his commitment to reinstating a federal ban on assault weapons, he has shied away from taking on the gun lobby.

Members of Congress who vow to fight any gun regulation

Jeff MiIler, Florida

“I will therefore oppose any gun control legislation as well as support repeals of existing gun control laws.

I have consistently received the highest ratings from the National Rifle Association and the Gun Owners of America.”
