Decorating with pairs — the serendipity of symmetry

What is it about a looming deadline that makes me want to throw writing to the wind and redecorate instead?

Today’s sale on One Kings Lane, The Power of Pairs, gave me lots of ideas on how to spiff up a room using that magic number so revered since Noah set out on the ark.

I love these Chevron stripe ottomans placed neatly beneath a Parsons desk. (I have the West Elm version of this desk. For years it served its purpose in my home office, and now it graces the guest room, just to remind people they have work to do.) You can also put  secret stuff in them, like the stash of People magazines you like to read while pretending to write your novel.

These spiffy green Aubrey Dining Chairs strike me as very Mad Men. See below the jump for more great design pairs.

This butterfly diptych would look lovely over a bed, or inspirational over a writing desk. And we can’t all be the landed gentry, but one can pretend with these paired prints of an English countryside estate.
