sunday reading

Great news: the San Francisco Chronicle Book Review is back to six pages this week! Now, if only the Atlanta Journal Constitution, which has recently fired its books editor, would follow in the same direction. Good to see that one major source of reviews is making a move in the right direction. I was also delighted to see a review of Ron Rash’s excellent new story collection, Chemistry & Other Stories, in the mix.

Other great reading you might want to check out: a short story by Nicole Krauss in the current issue of Harper’s Magazine.

And thanks to Bay Area booksellers and readers for making The Year of Fog a San Francisco Chronicle bestseller again this week. It also appears on the week’s Northern California Independent Booksellers bestseller list. Topping the Chron both lists this week: The Yiddish Policeman’s Union, by Michael Chabon, which is sitting by my bed at the moment looking very appealing.
