Received word from my agent yesterday that THE YEAR OF FOG will be published in Hungarian, by Tericum Kiado. The news brought back fond memories of a honeymoon spent in Budapest and Eger, Hungary in 2001, as well as my first stay in Budapest on a backpacking trip in 1998. It’s a beautiful country, with excellent food. When I was there last, I noticed that people in restaurants and on buses were very, very quiet. As someone who has a deep and longstanding appreciation for silence, I found this rare and remarkable. I wrote about Hungary in an essay for the Lonely Planet anthology Adventures in Wine: True Tales of Vineyards and Vintages Around the World. Incidentally, I had the most painful massage of my life at the gorgeous Hotel Gellert in Budapest.
