Here’s a funky, interesting website out of LA that seems to promise good things to come. A bit hard to navigate at the moment, but definitely worth poking around. Featuring mixed media “movellas,” writing about art, and humorous send-ups of politicos. Nice tunes, too. Now, how this website came to my attention is a funny story, which involves my husband Kevin browsing my statcounter last night as he is wont to do, only to realize that someone had been on this very blog searching by name for said husband and his ex-girlfriend from two decades ago. Which led us roundabout to this sweet, definition-defying site. Seems the older you get, the smaller the world becomes.
Years ago, on her very first day in Chicago, as she was driving down the street, lost, trying to find the apartment she was about to move into, my little sister spotted a familiar face in the crowd on the sidewalk. She pulled over. It was Davis, my old roommate from college and my serious boyfriend for some years, whom I had not seen in a decade. He helped her find her way, and they became friends. Now my sister is here in San Francisco, but the ex who appeared from out of the blue when she needed a helping hand is still in the windy city, directing news for a television station and winning Emmys, father to two young sons. Kevin and I have a son of our own, who lucked out and got Kevin’s hair.
