So the stock market was down 777 points yesterday, up more than 500 points today, it looks as though Congress may get some form of a deal through, and all of your hard-earned cash might not turn into confetti. Yay! Thanks in large part to McCain’s wildly erratic behavior and serious wonkiness (who stands up in front of ga-millions of people at the moment of the greatest financial disaster in America since the Great Depression and quips, “I’m a betting man!”) and Obama’s level-headedness, Obama is racing forward in the polls.
But hey, enough about the economy, let’s get to the fun stuff…the latest Palin response to one of Katie Couric’s questions. Now, I guess McCain might call it “gotcha journalism” when Couric asks Palin a question most high school students could probably answer without hesitation–what publications she reads or has read in the past. Couric is interested in knowing what magazines or newspapers have helped shape Palin’s world view. Here’s Palin’s answer:
“I’ve read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.”
Couric: “What, specifically?”
“All of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years.”
Couric: “Can you name a few?”
“I have a vast variety of source where we get our news. Alaska isn’t a foreign country, where it’s kind of suggested, ‘wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?’ Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.”
If you’ve googled “gotcha journalism” and can’t find a clear explanation, maybe McCain can help! Apparently, gotcha journalism is when a journalist or a voter asks Palin a question which hasn’t been vetted by the McCain campaign.
