Barack Obama has released a 2-minute video about our current economic crisis. No bells and whistles here. No expansive shots with rousing music and cheering crowds. It’s just Obama, talking about what’s wrong with our economy and what he plans to do to turn things around. This is a smart man with an intelligent plan.
Read Barack Obama’s economic plan in detail here.
The Basics:
1) $1,000 energy rebate to families, paid for by the oil companies
2) Creation of American jobs through fair trade
3) Creation of 5 million green jobs
4) Creation of jobs through investment in infrastructure
5) Federal support for research, technology and innovation for companies and universities
6) Elimination of capital gains taxes on small and start-up businesses to encourage small business growth
7) Support for workers’ rights, and a ban on the permanent replacement of striking workers
8) Crackdown on fraudulent lenders, tax credits for middle-class homeowners
9) Establish a credit card bill of rights to protect consumers from unfair credit practices
10) Reform of bankruptcy laws, including a ban on executive bonuses for bankrupt companies
11) Double funding for after-school programs, expanding the Family Medical Leave Act. They will provide low-income families with a refundable tax credit to help with their child-care expenses, and encourage flexible work schedules.
I like everything he has to say here in his plan, but (and to clarify, I am a middle-of-the-road, leaning toward Obama, voter) where are the funds coming from? I’m really trying to make an informed decision, and I wish that was addressed clearly. Maybe I’m missing it. I need to spend more time in the details.
Read The Year of Fog recently, by the way, and I loved it.
Yes, we are for sure in for a number of very difficult years. Perhaps one WPA / infrastructure stimulus project that President elect Barack Obama may consider is the Trans-Global Highway, which was proposed by Frank X. Didik to physically link the continents together. It would open up an era of global understanding and cooperation and would limit climate change while maintaining our international trade network. Extensive details on the well thought out Trans-Global Highway site is located at http://www.TransGlobalHighway.com.
Barack Obamas economic plan looks like it will help out us here in the us but I think that will help only a portion of our troubles, I am still concerned with our other debts to other countries such as China. I like where he(barack) is heading but I have yet to hear what plans he has made towards solving our out of country issues.
