It Gets Better Video from BYU

What is often lost in the political  and religious rhetoric about gay rights and the very nature of homosexuality is the fact that so many kids struggle with finding a place in their community. This moving “It Gets Better” video by gay and lesbian students at Brigham Young University–a school that, like so many religious institutions of learning, is notoriously intolerant–delves into what it means to be a gay child growing up in a community that despises you for who you are. The students talk about suicide, fear of coming out to their families and their church, and, ultimately finding a community of people who love them. Anyone who is tempted to be receptive to the hateful “being gay is a sin” rhetoric that is voiced so loudly by political candidates on the right, not to mention religious leaders, should watch this video.
