The Salon Series, Failbetter, & Canteen

What: The radar SALON series, hosted by Michelle Tea: snacks, conversation, revelation
When: Wednesday, May 16th, 7:00pm
Where: San Francisco Public Library * Harvey Milk – Eureka Valley Branch, 16th Street at Market
Who: I’ll be there, along with Kate Schatz. Michelle Tea will be asking the questions and feeding the hungry mouths with sweets.

About Kate: Kate Schatz lives in Oakland. Her parents wonder why her bios never mention that she’s from San Jose. Her first book of fiction, Rid of Me: a Story, comes out this July as part of Continuum Press’ acclaimed 33 1/3 series. She’s a co-founder and editor of The Encyclopedia Project and her writing has appeared in Denver Quarterly, West Branch, LTTR, BlitheHouse Quarterly, Bitch!, Kitchen Sink and other fine fine publications. She’s in the nascent stages of a novel about Mary Baker Eddy, electroshock therapy, and California. She received her MFA in Fiction Writing from Brown, and in the fall she’ll return to UC Santa Cruz, her undergrad alma mater, to teach writing to freshmen. She likes kickball, her pets, kale, and summer.

Plus: The new issue of Failbetter is now online! Fiction from Michael Kimball, poems by Mary Austin Speaker, and an interview with author Chris Bohjalian.

Other litmag news: Sean Finney’s Canteen launches Wednesday night at Foregin Cinema in San Francisco… guaranteed to be a sexy affair. I’m heading over after the Radar event.
