It’s a scorcher today. Really. Best place to beat the heat is out in the avenues, where there’s a nice breeze to take the edge off. And if you’re one of those San Francisco people who tends to forget that our city has a coastline that stretches for miles along the Pacific, it might be a good day to take in that salty sweet smell and dip your toes in the icy waters at Ocean Beach.
While you’re in the hood, don’t miss Nibs. I thought nothing could top Wendy’s cranberry orange scone, until I picked up her brandy apricot scone today. Heavenly. And the miniature bacon and cheese quiche is perfect. All their coffee is free trade certified. Nibs is at 38th & Balboa. On display in the store, you’ll find Chuck Bernstein’s lovely photography exhibit, Photographic Impressions of Kyoto, Japan: A Twenty Year Perspective.
If you need some air conditioning, you might stop into the Balboa. It’s pure escapism at the Balboa this weekend, as their usual arty fare is replaced with The Chronicles of Narnia and Iron Man.
For all the best spots to eat or drink in the Outer Richmond, check out the theater’s after the show page. For more substantial eats, try the delicious sweet and sour prawns at Kim Son (on Balboa between 37th & 38th avenues). For all the neighborhood vibe you can fit into a Friday, plus occasional hottie-spottings, stop by Simple Pleasures, home of great veggie bagels and beer on tap.
