Playboy Fiction: An Exciting New Career in Medicine

Playboy published fiction for 70 years, from 1950 to 2020, including work by Vladimir Nabokov, Shirley Jackson, James Baldwin, John Updike, Joyce Carol Oates, P.G. Wodehouse, Ray Bradbury, and many others. I was thrilled to join the ranks of Playboy fiction authors when the magazine selected my short story, “An Exciting New Career in Medicine,” for publication in the February, 2006 issue.

About the story: A woman grieving over the death of her sister finds her surprising and unconventional calling as a “manual medical caregiver” in this erotic story of love, lust, and dexterity.

“Richmond’s narrator in this interesting story is a grieving woman, mourning her deceased sister while trying to find a job more fulfilling than her copywriting gig. So she ardently studies for her exam to become a fully licensed, professional hand job giver…intriguing.” Slushpile.net

You can read the story in the story collection HUM. In the collection, the title has been shortened to “Medicine.”
